There are a jillion bridal blogs out there on the web, but we've culled the best of the best for the Southern bride--these are the blogs that range from the ultimate in glamour and glitz to the biggest trends in reception decor, flowers, and bands. So without further ado, bookmark these five blogs before you say " I Do".
Are you looking to a blog for inspiration, or do you want your wedding to be featured in the blog? If you're looking for ideas and themes, the social media footprint, publication guidelines, and overall aesthetic aren't that important. But if your big day is going to be so unique that you want to share it with the world, be sure to review each blog's guidelines for submissions and their general vibe before you decide which one you'd like to pursue.
SMP is the leading bridal blog--with over 2.5 million Facebook fans, this is the one that has something for everyone and is the leading edge for wedding trends. They have pretty dresses, vendor and registry links, and receive over 500 submissions each week--they publish about 3%. SMP's simple aesthetic has informed the overall industry trend towards less fussy and formal weddings, more neutral color palettes, and "green" events.
Martha has her own aesthetic--rich, richer, richest--and her blog is all about luxury and glamour. The blog itself isn't nearly the juggernaut of SMP or even Wedding Chicks, but the Martha Stewart brand is so huge that the blog does have an outsize influence. There is a link on the page to local vendors, but in general, the Martha blog does focus on the intangibles of weddings--traditions, etiquette, and other niceties. The photography here is amazing.
TheKnot is similar to SMP in that it's broad in scope--which is really a niche unto itself. It's the Cosmo of wedding blogs, with quizzes, registry links, your wedding website link, links to vendors, and of course, scrumptious photos of reception food and decor, dresses, and templates for the bride who's planning her own wedding.
What Southern girl doesn't grow up dreaming of marrying a prince? Admit it--high-powered, successful, and girly are not mutually exclusive things. If you've watched Royal Weddings (over and over and over) and want a dash of British elegance at your wedding, check out Love My Dress--a British-based blog that's the last word in wedding style and glamour across the pond. Love My Dress isn't all top hats and posh toffs, a recent post featured a vegan, clog-wearing bride and groomsmen in jeans, in a rustic outdoor ceremony.
Wedding Chicks is second only to SMP in social media reach, with over 1.5 million followers on Facebook. Their niche is the emotional and personal side of weddings--along with stunning images. They focus on the human elements of weddings that can easily be overlooked among the hoopla of the day, and they also feature attainable inspirations. This site is similar to The Knot in that it's all-inclusive, with links to venues, and vendors, as well as detailed info on planning your own wedding festivities.
Southern Weddings, the go-to for Southern brides since blogs became a thing, stopped publishing last June, but the archived content is still online. The Southern Weddings team has launched a new blog, Cultivate What Matters, that focuses on "real" life--what happens after the wedding. So you can still go to the site for inspiration and vendors, there just isn't any new content.
One of the biggest benefits of a bridal blog is the link to vendors, but Music Garden offers one-stop shopping for all your wedding entertainment. So that's one thing you can go ahead and cross off your list.
